Produce Trivia

Did you know that produce companies in California routinely ship fresh produce east without a final destination? The shelf life is so short, and demand so volatile, that they send fully loaded semis with team drivers east on the interstates and then call them in a couple of days when they're near (say) St. Louis to tell them to finish their journey in (say) Poughkeepsie. Now that is just-in-time-delivery.
