People for the American Way Jerks Its Knees
People for the American Way has put out a press release opposing the tuition voucher bill that is rolling through the Utah legislative process:
No matter what kind of fuzzy math legislators push, the bottom line is that money will be taken from public schools and sent to private ones. That’s no way to help our education system.
I need to go on the record here.
As part of the team that produced the supporting analysis used by the legislature, and as the producer of the largest volume of that "fuzzy math", let it be known that no one from PFAW ever contacted me for clarification.
My guess is they simply aren't interested.
They'd rather criticize something they don't understand, rather than putting in the effort to make it less fuzzy.
I'm used to that - I get that attitude from the 4 year old vX girl all the time.
In fact, our evidence showed that Utah schools are so overcommitted that the simple act of getting someone out the door voluntarily would free up state funds that could be plowed back into education.
Oh ... and there isn't anything fuzzy about the math. It's hard, but this is a hard question to address. It tooks me months, but if PFAW was interested in having it explained I could put together a clarifying seminar that might last an hour or so. They'd just have to ask.
