Word Tip # 20: Keep Word Open Without a File Open

Word changed its default behavior with Word 2007: if you close all your documents, then Word closes too.

This is both annoying, and a drag on system performance.

If you want Word to stay open when all documents are closed, the fix is here:

1. In Word 2007, click the Office button. In Word 2010, click the File tab.
2. Choose Options.
3. Select Advanced.
4. In the Display section, uncheck the Show All Windows In The Taskbar option.
5. Click OK.
