Refiners are paying almost $7 million in fines for not including a biofuel into their blends — even though there’s never been any biofuel to buy.
[This] demonstrates what happens when the federal government really, really wants something that technology is not ready to provide.
Of all things, the EPA is siding with the refiners:
… While it may seem harsh that the Environmental Protection Agency is penalizing them for failing to do the impossible, the agency is being lenient by the standards of the law …
And guess what? The requirement for refiners doubles next year!
Calling King Canute:
The underlying problem is that Congress legislated changes that laboratories and factories have not succeeded in producing.
I wonder how many members of Congress were fined for being complete jackasses?
