Just a great piece if you’ve ever thought about getting an iPad.
I wrote this post about 18 months ago, and saved it. Now we have an iPad … and just had to attend a seminar to get some idea of what we could use it for.
I came away nonplussed: as near as I can figure our iPad does everything my laptop could do about 3 years ago.

Everything except improve your social status...unless of course your laptop is a mac as well.

Well ... it's the vXwife's iPad ... so her status has improved.
I'm still stuck being a nerdy economist.

Well, unless you have a Mac Air laptop, the iPad is a lot lighter and easier to carry. Much better graphics and resolution, touch screen (and I bet your 3 year old lappy doesn't have that) for uses where a TT is more usable, and so on.
But if you don't like it, get rid of it. No one made you buy it, did they ?

Don't get me wrong Ed ... I like the physical product very much, and I've been a sucker for innovative design my whole life.*
But ... the claims that I can do stuff with an iPad that I can't do with other hardware is lame.
My analogy for Apple products is that they are like selling cars that come with a chauffeur as standard equipment. The main claim of many Apple users is analogous to saying my car is better because it came with its own chauffeur. That's great if you want to pay extra for it, but it's not like driving is that hard to begin with.
*FWIW: one thing I really want on a tablet is a thumbhole like a painter's palette.
