Jim Manzi points out that the biggest decade for people moving from farms to the city was … the 1840’s (as measured by the change in the percentage of the population on farms).

This matches up pretty well with 19th century Luddite movements.

This matches up pretty badly with 22st century fantasize, like we were recently a “sustainable”, rural, culture.
