Tis the season … to make clear what the “fiscal cliff” is all about.
Government spending is up. Way up. It isn’t just Obama and the Democrats … it was Bush and the Republicans too.
In short, we’ve already gotten the Christmas presents. The “fiscal cliff” is about gift-givers demanding that we either work more now (to pay more taxes) or work more later (to finance government debt) to pay for the gifts we may not have asked for.
Everybody is talking about how we are going to pay for the huge national debt, but nobody seems to be talking about the runaway spending which created that record-breaking debt. In other words, the big spenders get political benefits from handing out goodies, while those who resist giving them more money to spend will be blamed for sending the country off the "fiscal cliff."
Make no mistake folks: this is like the neighbors giving you Christmas cookies (that you accepted) and then asking you to pay for them (whether or not you like them or have eaten any).
