Luck vs. Design

Branch Rickey said that “[good] good luck is the residue of design”.

So what is bad luck the residue of?

I’d suggest it’s from a combination of too little self-awareness, too much self-esteem, and an absence of metacognition.

All are common in politicians and teenagers.
