Southern Utah made the national news yesterday. We’ve had a “mountain man” living in the woods, breaking into cabins in these parts for at least 6 years. He was captured yesterday.
The sheriff that led the team that caught him said he’s been very entertaining:
He really has a fascinating story to tell, and right now he’s willing to tell it …
No doubt there’ll be a movie on Spike TV about him next year.
The mountain* man used to live on the mountain right outside of town here, overlooking Zion National Park. But he moved on a couple of years ago; the pickings weren’t as ripe after his story became known. So, he moved about 150 miles to the northeast, to the mountains on the north side of I-70.

* Part of his success may be that most of Utah’s mountains aren’t really mountains. Instead, once you get up to the top, they’re high plateaus with plenty of sheep meadows that are quite suitable for getting around on foot.
