Many people are against Styrofoam. This is a huge problem for Dow Chemical because people label stuff as Styrofoam that … isn’t.
In particular, the white stuff that you get your food or drinks in is expanded polystyrene, and not Styrofoam at all.
It turns out that food and drinks have never been served in Styrofoam.
In short, it’s just a word that we like to use, probably because it’s fun to say.*
The article says most people have never seen Styrofoam, and now that I see their picture, I’m inclined to agree. I’ve seen it, but I’m a home-fixing middle-aged Home Depot junkie. Others … not so much.
