Just one of my very rare recommendations for a very readable blog about life in the high plains of South Dakota: check out Just a Ranch Wife.
Via Mark Perry at Carpe Diem.
P.S. Learned some new words from this blog too:
- West River: Drier, higher, more pastoral, less Scandinavian part of South Dakota west of the Missouri River. Parts of this are touristy, but I love just about every part of it I’ve seen.
- East River: Flatter, more agricultural, more Scandinavian part of South Dakota east of the Missouri River. I drove through this one night early in June. Buggiest region I’ve ever seen.
- Cove heating: I guess when you live near the coal fields, this is the sort of thing they push to take advantage of the cheap electricity.
