Chicago may be better understood in thirds — one-third San Francisco, two-thirds Detroit.
As a visitor (in 2009, 1998, and 1988), I’ve stayed mostly inside the loop, and loved Chicago. But Shameless is one of my favorite shows, so I’ve seen the rest.
The quote seems appropriate for most big cities that are run by Democratic machines — only the fractions change.

Or, as I have taken to describing it, Wrigleyville to the Museum Campus east of the rivers is fifteen square miles of privilege surrounded by the Third World. And now Wisconsin is going after the residents of the Privilege Sector with adverts on the Ravenswood and Evanston L trains.
