I did a bit of digging into this some years ago. The WHO numbers - which is what everyone uses - are those provided to WHO by the Cuban government.

So the entire story of how good Cuban health care is is based upon the claims of an authoritarian government (to put it at its mildest) upon what it itself regards as its signature achievement.

Therefore I've been muttering for some years about whether there's some medical equivalent of Benford's Law that can be used.

Could we, say, take the claimed lifespans, birth rates and starting population and end up with hte claimed population now? If there was any untruth uttering going on then the equation wouldn't balance perhaps?
